Getting Started with Alfrodin

Install the add-in and activate your license in just a few minutes.

Install the Add-In

Individual Users

From Microsoft Marketplace

  1. Open Outlook, Word, Excel or PowerPoint
  2. Click Home → Add-ins (in older versions: Insert → Get Add-ins)
  3. Search for “Alfrodin”
  4. Click "Add" to install
IT Administrators

Centralized Deployment

  1. Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
  2. Go to Settings → Integrated Apps
  3. Search for “Alfrodin” in Microsoft Apps
  4. Deploy to the desired users or groups
ⓘ Alfrodin consists of two add-ins in the Microsoft Marketplace. Please install Alfrodin for Outlook in Microsoft Outlook and Alfrodin for Office in Word, Excel or PowerPoint.

Activate Your License

Marketplace customers

Automatic activation

  1. Complete the purchase on Microsoft Marketplace
  2. Admin clicks “Configure SaaS account” → redirected to the Alfrodin activation page
  3. Assign licenses to your users in the Microsoft 365 admin center (Billing → Licenses)
  4. Users sign in with their Microsoft account - Alfrodin detects the assigned license automatically
ⓘ No license keys - licenses are assigned per user in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Manual activation with license key

  1. Check your inbox for the license key email from Digistore24
  2. Open Alfrodin in any Office app
  3. Click “Enter License Key” in the license dialog
  4. Paste your key (format ALF-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) and click “Activate”

Connect to Alfresco

  1. Enter your Alfresco server URL (e.g. https://alfresco.example.com)
  2. Enter your Alfresco username and password
  3. Click “Connect”
ⓘ Alfrodin supports Alfresco Community & Enterprise versions 6.x, 7.x, 23.x, and 25.x. Your Alfresco server must be reachable via HTTPS from your network.

  • Office 2019 or older is not supported

Alfresco Server

  • Alfresco Community or Enterprise
  • Version 6.x, 7.x, 23.x, and 25.x
  • HTTPS access from your network
  • Alfresco REST API enabled
ⓘ Alfrodin runs inside the modern web engine built into Microsoft 365 and Office 2021+ - Edge WebView2 on Windows, WebKit on macOS. No extra installation is required. Only older Windows versions of Office (2019 and earlier) use a legacy engine and are not supported. Office for the web works in any modern browser.

Set up the direct connection (CORS approval)

For Alfresco administrators

Alfrodin runs in your browser and in Microsoft Office. With CORS approval, it connects directly to your Alfresco server; your documents and your password then travel only between your device and your server. Your IT makes this setting once.

  1. Add the lines. Add these lines to the file alfresco-global.properties: 
    cors.enabled=true
cors.allowed.origins=https://app.alfrodin.com,https://web.alfrodin.com
cors.allowed.methods=DELETE,GET,HEAD,OPTIONS,POST,PUT

    https://app.alfrodin.com applies to Alfrodin for Microsoft Office, https://web.alfrodin.com to Alfrodin Web. Enter exactly the addresses of the products you use.
  2. Restart Alfresco.
  3. Check. In Alfrodin, “Settings” shows the connection type “Direct connection” under “Connection”.

Set up "Edit in Office" on the server

For Alfresco administrators

With "Edit in Office", Office opens a file from Alfresco and saves it straight back. The Alfresco server needs a few settings for this. The files for them are in the configuration package you can download below. Which parts of it you need depends on the identity provider and on the computers used:

Microsoft Entra ID

  • Windows only: parts A.1 and A.2, A.3 recommended
  • With Office for Mac: parts A.1 to A.3

Keycloak and other identity providers

  • Windows only: the basic settings are sufficient
  • With Office for Mac: part A.3
ⓘ Always needed are the basic settings from chapter 3 of the manual: the AOS module with its public HTTPS address, sign-in through your identity provider with the AOS return address, and on Windows the approval of the Office sign-in.

Security: a component in the proxy manages the Office sign-in. The tokens stay on the server; Office receives only a session cookie.
